If you have children or adults in your household learning to read, this next thing I am going to tell you is going to knock your socks off.
YES, it will.

When you teach someone the alphabet, don’t you usually start with A, B, C, D, E, and so on?
I mean it. Don’t do that! Don’t teach capital letters!
Teach lower case letters. Your kids will get it. Honestly, they will.
Because, really, how many times do we use capital letters compared to the usage of lower case letters?

Yup. I know your socks are blown off right about now.
You will find that some people disagree with this. They think you should keep things simple. However, little minds can recognize McDonald’s signs, K-Mart signs, and more – and these are all complex images. Recognizing signs is a pre-reading skill.
EXPECT your children to catch on, and they will!
