Hi and Welcome to my part in The Nester’s 31 days of…
Here at My Evident Faith we are going to be talking about READING for the next 31 days. Yes, this will be a challenge – not to post about READiNG but to post EVERY day for 31 days, lol.
With this series I hope to encourage everyone to add MORE reading into your life and into the lives your your loves ones, and teach you some interesting activities to help your child to learn to read, and to help you find some ways to add some growth to your own reading habits.
Why should you read to your child? Here is just one reason:
“A child from a low-income family enters kindergarten with a listening vocabulary of 3,000 words, while a child of a middle-income family enters school with a listening vocabulary of 20,000 words.” (Hart & Risley, 1995)
Don’t we want all our children to be blessed with the same opportunities?
I don’t want to make this first post be a lecture, so let me start with something simple that you can do for yourself…
Did you know that you GET SMARTER when you read?
Yup, as simple as it is for a preschooler – you gain a greater grasp of sentence structure, increase your vocabulary, learn things about the world, learn history, learn about relationships in a safe environment, and have something to talk about at parties.
And more, of course. But that’s where we’ll keep it today.

Thanks for stopping by my Apples of Gold blog and “liking” the posts on author Elizabeth Musser…
Love your theme on reading!
