Strangely, the raspberries we have been growing behind our shed were not there a few years ago. And no one planted them.
What happened was this: In thinking they were dead sticks of plants, my husband picked them up from my stash (okay, haphazard pile) of projects, and tossed them into the “dead zone” behind our little metal Sear’s shed where we keep our mowers and snowblower.
And within a year we had a copse of raspberries! And the next year there were more. And more. And you get the idea!
To think, I had been so upset to find out he had thrown those sticks away! Yes, I always tease him because he always thinks things are on their last legs only to find out they are just hybernating or resting, or waiting to be rescued. I can tell you many other similar stories… but the raspberry tossing is my favorite. I was so happy to find that The Bouncer hadn’t thrown those “sticks” away in the trash! And what a wonderful treasure for the family to find after believing those sticks were never going to produce fruit or grow ever again.
What an awesome parallel to our lives. Though we might feel beyond redemption, we are able to be saved. Though we might feel alone, we are together in Christ.
As He tells us in John 15:5, Jesus is the vine, we are the branches, If we remain in Him and He in us, we will bear much fruit; apart from Him we can do nothing.
And through Christ we can be like those raspberries, and grow and BLOOM.
And we can BLESS.

I love this….it brought back so many wonderful memories of my childhood. My grandparents had raspberries and they have always been some of my favorites. My grandma made the most heavenly jelly from it. What I wouldn’t give for a jar right now. Thanks for posting this…..so enjoyed it!
Salina, I wish I could share some with you, my friend. You are truly a gift and I would love to give you some.
Beautifully delicious. Isn’t God amazing. Those raspberries were in the sowing season. And now what a wonderful spendor. They are blooming where they have been planted.
Yes! It’s so beautiful how God makes everything work together for His plan. Thank you so much for stopping over!
this happened to us once at our other place. The kids had ate some tomatoes outside and just threw down the leftovers and viola tomato bushes. Come by and see us sometime.
Wow! Surprise tomatoes!
Yes, enjoyed your site and following you now. I am definitely going to use that garbage bag trick! Happy surprise gardening
