Our Vegetable Garden 2012

Normally I am so busy and focused on work that I have to use my computer to remind me to do things like call my husband, or even leave work for the day (yes, really). And today was no exception.
But for some reason, a few pictures kept popping into my head randomly throughout the day…
Yes, my summer garden for 2012!
We normally have a traditional garden that is about 18 feet by 35 feet. It’s pretty big. We always start off the season with nicely planted rows, delineated by string, and by August the vines from the zucchini, cukes, and pumpkins have wound themselves in between every other vegetable plant. I love it! But it is hard to keep it free from weeds.
This hasn’t affected our harvest, but I have been anxious to try Square Foot Gardening.
For years I have owned Mel Batholomew’s book of the same name, and I remember my parents watching that show. And this year my husband has built me a bunch of SFG boxes! I normally spend mother’s day planting, but because I was as sick as a dog (huh?) that day, my gang decided to treat me to a special day yesterday. While Dad built the boxes, two of our gang did the heavy lifting, and spent several hours using a wheelbarrow to move the soil from the truck bed to the back yard. And the other two spend those same hours shopping and preparing a delicious meal! I swear my son could be a chef!
Anyway, they worked so hard and everything was so beautiful (we even fit in a family bday party after church) that I could barely sleep last night. It was too late to plant anything, so I was antsy at work today thinking about how awesome this year’s crop was going to be! But now its raining and I won’t be able to plant until tomorrow.
Well, it will be something to look forward to!

Beautiful!
