Fasting and Food Allergies

For me, the problem is that I have a number of food allergies. If I were born 100 years ago, I would not have made it to adulthood! God’s gift of intellect and modern medicine has given people like me a gift.

The Daniel Fast is considered a partial fast. Some foods are eaten while others are restricted. The foods that Daniel ate during the 21 day fast described in the book of Daniel include all fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, legumes, certain oils (ie, olive oil, peanut oil, and more), water, and tofu, soy products, vinegar, seasonings, salt, herbs and spices.
I am allergic to:
- legumes (most, including soy)
- tree nuts (walnuts, almonds, etc)
- peanuts and peanut oil
So you can see my problem! The proteins I could add to my diet are, for the most part, things I cannot eat.
In my search to make sure I am having a healthy fast, I found a number of sites with information that seems reasonable. I think I was overly worried about proteins. I am now confident that I can experience a partial fast that is healthy and won’t send me for a loop!
The websites I have checked into are Susan Gregory’s Daniel Fast, Campus Crusade for Christ International, Fasting for Dummies, Spiritual Fasting, and a few others.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

I’ve found, for me, that a “create your own fast” is what works best. Like right now, I’m doing one that cuts out bread and grain. I’ve also done a very boiled down sort of Daniel fast. It was only fruits and vegetables for 10 days. With my fasts, I always decide what I’m going to fast from and the length. then I give it to Him and allow His spirit to help me keep it. **always here if you want encouragement or need to chat about fasts.
Oh, Amy, thank you so much.
